Who we are

We Buy That (WBT) is a referral marketplace operated by Referrals For America Inc. We connect people selling used items with local buyers who want them. We’re a matchmaker, not a buyer or seller of goods, and we don’t handle the transactions between the two sides. This policy covers the WeBuyThat.com website, the text messages we send, and the emails we send.

What we collect

We only collect what we need to run the referral network. That breaks down into a few groups.

Information sellers give us

When you submit items, we collect the details you provide: a description of what you’re selling, photos, your general location and ZIP code, your pickup preference, your reason and timeline for selling, and your contact information so buyers can reach you after they claim your referral.

Information buyers give us

When you join the buyer network, we collect your name, your email address, and, if you choose to receive text alerts, your mobile phone number and your text messaging opt in. We also collect the ZIP code and radius for your service area, the categories you’re interested in, and how far you’re willing to travel. When you claim a referral, we process a payment through our payment provider.

Information we collect automatically

When you visit the site, we automatically collect standard technical and usage data such as your IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, links clicked, and how you move through the site. This happens through the analytics tools described in the cookies section below.

How we use it

We use the information we collect to:

• Match sellers with relevant local buyers and send referral alerts.
• Process referral fee payments and provide receipts.
• Send account, transactional, and service emails.
• Send text message referral alerts to buyers who opt in.
• Respond to your questions and requests.
• Understand how people use the site so we can improve it.
• Protect the platform against fraud, abuse, and misuse.
• Meet our legal and tax obligations.

Text messaging (SMS)

If you provide your mobile number and opt in on our buyer signup form, We Buy That may send you text messages with referral alerts for the categories and service areas you selected. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time, or reply HELP for help.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. We do not sell or rent your mobile phone number or your SMS opt-in data to anyone. Your consent to receive texts is not a condition of any purchase, and you can opt out at any time by replying STOP.

Cookies and tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies to make the site work and to understand how visitors use it. We currently do not show a cookie consent banner, so by using the site you accept the use of these cookies. You can control or block cookies through your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work as well if you do.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to measure traffic and understand which pages and features people use. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects usage data such as pages viewed and general location. You can opt out across all sites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Microsoft Clarity

We use Microsoft Clarity to see how visitors interact with our pages through aggregated metrics, heatmaps, and session recordings. These recordings capture actions like mouse movement, scrolling, and clicks, and help us spot confusing spots and improve the site. Clarity is configured to mask sensitive content such as text you type into forms. You can read more in the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

Who we share it with

We share information only as needed to operate the platform, never to sell it. The main parties are:

• Buyers and sellers: when a buyer claims a referral, we share the seller’s contact details with that buyer so they can connect directly. Sellers do not receive buyer information unless the buyer chooses to contact them.
• Service providers: we use trusted companies to run the platform, including Stripe for payment processing, SendGrid for email delivery, Twilio for text message delivery, Cloudinary for photo hosting, and Airtable for data storage. They handle data on our behalf under their own privacy and security terms.
• Analytics providers: Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, as described above.
• Legal and safety: we may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of WBT, our users, or others.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. We do not store your full payment card details. Card information is entered directly with Stripe and handled by them.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, meet legal and tax requirements, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When information is no longer needed, we remove it or anonymize it. You can ask us to delete your information at any time using the contact details below.

Your choices and rights

You have control over your information. You can:

• Ask us what personal information we hold about you.
• Request that we correct or update it.
• Request that we delete it.
• Unsubscribe from emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any WBT email.
• Stop text messages at any time by replying STOP to any WBT text.
• Opt out of analytics tracking using the browser tools linked in the cookies section.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including working with established providers like Stripe and using secure connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so while we work hard to protect your data, we can’t guarantee absolute security.

Children

WBT is not directed to anyone under 18, and we don’t knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time as the platform evolves or as laws change. When we do, we’ll revise the date at the top of this page. Significant changes may also be communicated by email. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
